Fun on the Fourth

The Fourth of July has come and gone and there are just a few months left of summer.  I hate to say it but the summer seems to go by crazy fast after the holiday is over.

Our holiday was very laid back.  We slept in until around 9:30 and it was much needed.  My middle child conned me into watching the movie 47 Meters Down that he found on Netflix.  He knows I don't like sharks or shark movies, and it's no secret that the movie Jaws scared the crap out of me as a child (thanks, Dad), but I got sucked into the plot and Mandy Moore was in it so I figured it couldn't be that bad.  She's one of my favorite actresses and I googled to see whether or not she dies in the end.  Don't worry, I won't spoil the movie for you.

Later the Huz and I decided to take the boys to see Incredibles 2 at the theater.  My sister had won a movie-themed prize that included an Incredibles 2 t-shirt, hat, colored pencil kit and case with a ruler and a notebook. O-Man wore the hat and shirt to the movie.  He was totally decked out.  The movie was very good.  I've always loved the original.  My oldest son watched it so many times when he was little.  Little G sat through most of it but then became antsy so we moved to a quieter seating area where he could walk back and forth in the row.  The boys seemed to love it, too.  I heard them laughing hard at the funny parts and even the Huz was amused.

After the movie, we went home to make dinner and the boys asked if we could continue with a movie night.  We watched The Burbs, an old favorite from my childhood starting Tom Hanks.  My boys laughed at all the funny parts and my oldest commented on the fashion trends of the late 1980s.  What really surprised me was that my husband had never seen this movie before.  I couldn't even believe it.  I made sure he sat down with the rest of us.  I think he liked it, too.

Later that night our neighborhood was lit up with fireworks.  The neighbors across our circle had a ton of illegal ones they lit up, but a few hours later the cops came and told them to stop.  I'm pretty sure they got a fine, too.

The Huz found some left over sparklers from last year and let the kids light them up.  Lttle G loved them.  He got such a kick out of "holding fire" and the look on his face was one of sheer joy.  I love seeing my boys happy.

We had planned to go see a fireworks show in Amherst but rain and thunderstorms were in the forecast so we skipped it.  I'm kind of glad we did.  It sure was tough to get up for work the next day!
